DM Home Theater Remote Privacy Policy
Effective October 13, 2026. Updated October 18, 2026 for version 1.1 (iCloud sync and the Apple Watch app). Updated October 27, 2026 for version 1.4 (the Chrome extension).
DM Home Theater Remote is a Mac and iPhone app by Dependent Media that controls an Apple TV, a Pioneer, Onkyo or Integra network AV receiver and a Google TV.
What the app collects
Nothing. DM Home Theater Remote has no account and contains no analytics, tracking or advertising, and Dependent Media receives no data from it.
What it sends
The app talks to your own devices, over your home network. To find them, the app looks for them on your local network, which is why it asks for Local Network access. The Apple Watch app sends what you tap to the iPhone app over the connection between your watch and your iPhone, and the iPhone app passes it to your devices. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
What stays on your device
The pairing keys that let the app control your Apple TV and Google TV, the buttons you create, the names you give to inputs and the addresses of your devices stay on your device, in its secure keychain or settings, and are never uploaded. The one exception is that the setup described under iCloud below is labeled with your receiver’s local network address.
iCloud
From version 1.1, if you are signed in to iCloud, the app keeps part of your setup the same on your Mac and iPhone (and in DM Receiver Remote) through Apple’s iCloud key-value storage: your room plan (room shape, furniture, speaker positions, TV size and name), your speaker layout, equalizer curves, the sound you saved for each input, and a few display preferences. These are labeled with your receiver’s local network address. They are kept in your own iCloud account under Apple’s privacy policy; Dependent Media cannot see them. If you are not signed in to iCloud, nothing is synced.
Apple Home
On iPhone, if you add lights to a button, the app asks for access to your Home so you can pick them. The app uses that access only to turn the lights you chose on, off or dim when you press the button. It does not read or store your Home data anywhere else.
Microphone
When you open the Analyzer, the app listens through your iPhone’s or Mac’s microphone to show the sound in your room: how loud it is, which frequencies, and a moving picture of the last few seconds. The sound is analysed on your device as it arrives. It is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere, and the app asks before it first uses the microphone; you can turn that off in Settings at any time.
The Chrome extension
From version 1.4, the free extension DM Home Theater: Play on TV for Google Chrome adds a Play on Apple TV button to YouTube pages on your Mac. Only when you click it, the extension reads which video you’re watching, its title and where you are in it, pauses it in Chrome, and passes those to DM Home Theater Remote on the same Mac, which opens the video on your Apple TV. The extension and the app talk only to each other, inside your Mac (the address 127.0.0.1); nothing goes over the internet to Dependent Media or anyone else. The extension doesn’t read your YouTube account, your history or your other tabs, and it stores nothing. In the app, Apple TV › YouTube from Chrome › Take Videos from the Chrome Extension turns this off.
